We are excited to release our first Sauvignon Blanc wine. It’s a wine that we love, and it is perfect for warm weather and sunshine and pairs wonderfully with cheeses and seafood. This could become your new summer sipper! It is equally delicious with cloudy skies and rain (essential for Oregon).
It was at Cassandra’s insistence that we offer Sauvignon Blanc in our portfolio that had us searching for the perfect grapes. When a block became available at the Sugarloaf vineyards in the Yakima Valley, located across from our Malbec block, we decided to take advantage of the opportunity to craft a wine that is one of our favorites!
Sauvignon Blanc is believed to have originated in Bordeaux, France, with the earliest references to it in 1534. It is a green-skinned grape that buds late and ripens early. In warm climates, it exhibits tropical fruit aromas, while in cooler climates it has grapefruit, stone fruit, and grassy notes. It is a wine that is meant to be enjoyed young and does not benefit from aging.
Today Sauvignon Blanc is grown widely in France and found in Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, Chile, Oregon, Washington, and California. Cuttings were brought to California in the late 1880s, thriving in the Livermore Valley. Robert Mondavi is credited with marketing the grape as Fumé Blanc in 1968. While today New Zealand is known for Sauvignon Blanc it wasn’t grown there until the 1970s.
This wine leads with tropical fruit and apricot flavors finishing with hints of acidity with a long, dry finish. You can drink it solo or with chevre and a baguette. Enjoy it with chicken or turkey, soft cheeses (feta, chevre, mozzarella), lobster and calamari, and vegetables such as eggplant and zucchini.
Interestingly enough, Sauvignon Blanc and Cabernet Franc are the parent grapes of Cabernet Sauvignon, making its first appearance in the 18th Century.
We only made 125 cases of Sauvignon Blanc, so get it while it lasts! It is a bargain for $28.00 retail and $ 23.80 for our Cellar Club members.
